Riyadh - Known by local wags as the Dead Center of the Kingdom, Riyadh is the most straight-laced of the Kingdom's big cities. With most forms of entertainment banned, few sights of interest and a brutal climate, Riyadh is a business-only destination if there ever was one.
Riyadh is a great city for bargain hunters and shopping aficionados as the city is bursting with souks that sell everything from souvenirs, antiques and carpets to jewellery and clothing.

Dammam - Dammam lies on tip of land stretching out into the Persian Gulf, forming a large metropolitan and industrial area.
Dammam is a major seaport, involved in a wide variety of export and import. It is a centre for petroleum and natural gas, but also the centre of all commerce in the eastern parts of the kingdom. There is some agriculture, largely dealing with livestock and dairy products.
Dammam is also the terminus of the railroad to Riyadh. The King Fahd International Airport is shared by all the cities in the region.
Dammam is a modern city, but has seen less investments and fewer projects than Khobar.

Makkah (Mecca) - Makkah is an Islamic Holy city in Saudi Arabia. Each year approximately eight million visitors travel to Saudi Arabia, of which half are on religious travel. The height of the travel season at Makkah takes place during the annual Hajj pilgrimage and visitors during the Holy month of Ramadan when the Holy city welcomes over two million pilgrims for the Hajj alone. Makkah is home to Al Masjid al Haram (also known as the Grand Mosque) which houses the Kaaba, the shrine which Muslims turn towards while offering daily prayers and considered to be the Holiest site in Islam. In addition to the Hajj, Muslims are encouraged to travel to Makkah on what is commonly known as a "lesser pilgrimage" or Umrah.

Madinah (Medina) - Medina is the second holiest city in Islam after Makkah (Mecca), and the burial place of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Besides the Prophet Mosque, other important landmarks include the Islamic University of Al Madinah, King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quraan, the Quba Mosque (the oldest mosque in Saudi Arabia), and many archaeological attractions. Madinah was home to the Prophet Mohammed and his followers after the Hijra migration in 622.
Saudi Arabia has launched a massive campaign to increase its capacity to welcome religious tourists. Changes have included an easing of visa restrictions and large-scale infrastructure projects including airport expansions, new rail lines, and highways.
