Although better known by name than many other regions, Burgundy is
probably one of the least appreciated parts of France. Apart from wine buffs
stopping to pick up the odd case of wine from a favourite producer, most
visitors drive straight through on the A6 on their way south and miss the
beautiful countryside and, of course, the glorious gastronomy and majestic
wines.

Beaune - Beaune is a lovely city with many cobbled streets, covered markets, townhouses and ramparts.
The Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune (Hospices de Beaune) is one of the finest examples of French fifteenth-century gothic architecture and the most popular jewel of Burgundy with its courtyard and its multicoloured roof tiles. The Hôtel-Dieu was built in the middle-age as a hospital for the poor and needy.
Under the cobblestones of Beaune you will find many caves built a few centuries ago, which now shelter great wines. Some caves are even open to the public for a visit and wine tasting session.
You will find the Bouzaize Park with its many trees, water feature, merry-go-round, playing area and small zoo; ideal for a relaxing stroll or a day out with the family.
Other tourist activities in Beaune include: the Square des Lions, the wine museum, the Art museum or the Basilique Notre Dame.
In the region you can find: Meursault Castle, Pommard Castle, the Cassissium (first European museum dedicated to blackcurrant), the Clos de Vougeot, the Citeaux Abbey, the Cluny Abbey, the Fontenay Abbey, Sully Castle and Germolles Castle.
