As you may well imagine travelling with an infant means loads of luggage and we could not bear to travel into the centre of Hong Kong with 7 bags, so when we saw a free shuttle we booked the Citygate straight away. </p> <p>This way we could dump our luggage and travel by MTR (train) with a small backpack for day trips. </p> <p>After using the free shuttle (counter B16 outside arrivals), we checked in with english speaking staff. The hotel was excellent, brand new!!! Smallish room, but really, do you need more? My wife made use of the modern gym and pool with our son. Views were nothing too special, but at night everything is pretty from the 12th floor. </p> <p>The buffet restaurant was very nice. $148HK each for dinner ($24.66 aussie dollars ea). $118HK for breakfast. But I would recommend booking in advance for dinner as it was very busy. Make a booking for Essance buffet restaurant when booking your room. The restaurant is in the foyer. </p> <p>The hotel is linked to a shopping mall by an escalator. Some of the shops are not occupied yet. But of the ones that are they vary from a supermarket, to McDonald's, to electronics, to Calvin Klien underware. There is a cinema in the shopping mall and a MTR (train) station that goes into Hong Kong. It is the end of the Tung Chung line. Also there is free internet at Pacific Coffee in the overpass part of the shopping mall (you'll understand when you're there). Free if you buy a coffee that is. This is the same at Pacific coffee on Nathan road opposite the park. </p> <p>There is a cable car going up to a monstary and the large Budda statue from the shopping centre as well but this was not commissioned when we were there. Apperntly it should be operating by July 06. </p> <p>One thing though, I managed to cause a minor flood in our room by blocking the toilet (gotta watch that). The room attendant tried to convince us to stay in our room that had been flooded and wiped up, but on asking at reception, we were assigned a new room no problem at all. </p> <p>--------------------------</p> <p>Just stayed at the brand new Novotel Citygate. Very good value four star property situated just ten minutes drive by complimentary shuttle bus from the airport. </p> <p>The bedrooms are very modern and high tech with large plasma TV screens and very comfortable beds. The hotel staff are also very welcoming. The choice of restaurants is very good with an excellent buffet that is heavily patronised by the locals because of its variety and reasonable prices. The mountain and sea views from the hotel are outstanding. The hotel is connected to the Citygate Shopping Mall which is so new only about half the shops are open. You can find many excellent restaurants and cafes and many well known chains.
