Imagine sunning yourself on the idyllic islands of the Dalmation coast and
marvelling at the tumbling cascades in Plitvice National Park. Picture yourself
wandering the marble streets of medieval Dubrovnik and exploring Diocletian's
Palace in Split. Whether it's the unspoilt landscapes or rich cultural heritage
that inspires you - connect with this, the original guide to Croatia. |
Perfectly situated on the Adriatic Coast, Croatia’s fascinating cities,
irresistible coastline, sun and cheap living make it a fantastic destination.
Its capital
Zagreb
is an exciting culmination of Eastern and Western Europe. The city is renowned
for it’s many baroque and gothic churches, and you can get fantastic views of
the city from the Lotrscak Tower in the North-west.
Although
Dubrovnik
was heavily shelled in the early 1990s, the old town of Stari Grad has been
restored to its historical marble-paved squares, steep cobbled streets and
delightful architecture. However, the highlight of your visit will probably be
the city’s fortified walls, built between the 13th and 16th centuries.
Off the beaten track, visit
Split,
Solin and the island of Korcula. Split is the largest Croatian city on the
Adriatic coast. To the north-east, the ancient ruins of Solin lie amongst the
vineyards – arguably the most interesting archaeological site in Croatia.
Meanwhile, Korcula Island boasts plenty of quiet coves and small beaches.
