Early Spring is a wonderful time to visit the mystical island of
Cyprus.
Situated in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the country is in full bloom with
its many ruins and rocky foothills surrounded by lush fields of wildflowers.
Only 80km south of the Turkish coast, Cyprus is predominately Turkish in the
north and Greek in the south. Its capital
Nicosia
is very relaxed, with its main interesting feature the old town which lies
within 16th century Venetian walls. The city centre has plenty of restaurants,
museums and art to keep you busy.
The International Airport is situated in
Larnaca,
arguably the modern gateway to Cyprus. Don’t miss its beautiful St Lazarus
Church and Palm Tree Promenade. Just 40km west lie the picturesque villages of
Lefkara and
Ayia Napa.
Ayia Napa's
nightlife is legendary, but it also plays host to a beautiful 16th century
monastery and the breathtaking Cape Greco.
Interesting villages worth exploring include the whitewashed inland town of
Paralimni and culturally rich
Limassol
on the south coast.
