Visit Goa
Goa is the big tourist draw of South India not only for its scores of beautiful beaches, but because you can really be yourself on them.
The Christian Portuguese past has left the whole region with lovely bits of colonial architecture, some very grand. But the most famous and ubiquitous are the tiny and very pretty churches. You notice them everywhere, not just for there surprising number, but for their charming scale. They’re hobbit-sized, some built for parishes of just a couple of dozen. They’re mostly white, which makes them look particularly lovely framed by a bright green rice paddy or surrounded by palms, and they usually feature a bright red door. Enchanting. You’ll find yourself taking a lot of pictures.
But the vast majority of resorts along Goa's long and beautiful coastline south of Anjuna are far more upscale, and cater mostly to families looking for a laid-back time on the palm-fringed sands of the Arabian Sea. There are pretty little villages dotted among the rice fields, all extremely welcoming and friendly. A pleasant sing-song English spoken almost everywhere, and there are very good things to buy at every turn.
